In early July, conservative author Alec Lace made an appearance on Fox Business in which he called Vice President Kamala Harris the “original Hawk Tuah girl.”
“Kamala Harris, she’s the original Hawk Tuah girl,” Lace said on July 5. “That’s the way the got where she is, and the party’s goin’ downhill if it’s in her hands.”
The clip has resurfaced lately, and on Wednesday, Toronto Raptors veteran Garrett Temple made his feelings known on Lace’s comments via social media.
Lace seemingly made the comments to claim that Harris slept her way to the top of the political world, with his mention of “Hawk Tuah” being a reference to a street interview that went viral earlier this summer.
Temple certainly isn’t the only one who feels like Lace crossed the line with his comments, as many other users on social media have also called out the conservative figure.
Harris is likely to be the Democratic nominee in the upcoming presidential election after President Joe Biden recently ended his bid to be re-elected. Harris, assuming she secures the nomination, will face off against Republican nominee Donald Trump in November.
Trump, who was the nation’s 45th president, is looking to take office once again after losing to Biden in the 2020 election. Meanwhile, Harris is looking to keep Trump away from the White House and become the first woman in U.S. history to be president.
Temple and other NBA players will be sure to keep an eye on the election as it approaches, especially with the basketball community often being very politically involved. Election day is set for Nov. 5, and the NBA may choose to schedule no games that day as it has done in the past.
Temple has played for a plethora of teams during his NBA career and is one of the oldest players in the league at 38. This offseason, he signed a deal with the Raptors to return to the team for the 2024-25 season.
The NBA journeyman hasn’t gotten much playing time in recent years but certainly brings a lot to the table as a veteran voice and leader. He holds career averages of 6.1 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
