Report: HBO Max to provide live sports including NBA, MLB, NHL, March Madness and U.S. soccer

HBO Max is going to offer live streams of NBA, MLB, NHL, March Madness and U.S. soccer games starting next month.

Customers of the Max streaming service will have access to the Bleacher Report Sports Add-On beginning on Oct. 5 ahead of the MLB’s National League Division series. The 2023-24 NHL and NBA regular seasons also begin on Oct. 10 and Oct. 24, respectively.

The sports package will be free from October up until the end of February 2024, thanks to a promotion from Warner Bros. Discovery. But starting in March of 2024, the sports tier will cost $9.99 per month.

As for pro sports, the sports tier will offer MLB postseason and 2024 regular-season coverage, 60 NHL regular-season games, the NHL Winter Classic, 65 NBA regular-season games, the NBA’s first in-season tournament, the 2024 NBA All-Star Game, All-Star Saturday night and U.S. men’s and women’s national soccer matches.

Additionally, it will offer NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs and NBA Playoffs coverage. The postseason in both sports will begin in April of 2024.

As for college sports, the sports tier will offer coverage of the NCAA Divison I Men’s Basketball championship — otherwise known as March Madness — which will begin in March.

Customers of cable companies will still have access to sports games on Turner channels, such as TNT and TBS, that are part of their cable packages after purchasing the sports tier.

The service provides a simulcast of games that air on Turner channels and also includes commercials from those channels.

Bleacher Report’s package will offer more than just live American sports, though. Sports shows like “Inside the NBA” as well as foreign sporting events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans car race in France will be available to subscribers.

Only time will tell if the Bleacher Report Sports Add-On service will become a popular method to watch live sports in the coming months. But seeing as how the service is free to Max customers until March, every sports fan with a subscription to the streaming service would be wise to give the sports tier a try while it’s free.
