Chance Comanche, a former player with the Stockton Kings of the G League, and his girlfriend, Sakari Harnden, 19, have been accessed of killing a woman who had been missing, according to Las Vegas Metro Police. Both are expected to face an open murder charge.
The couple is accused of killing Marayna Rodgers, 23. Rodgers was a medical assistant from Washington who was last seen on Dec. 6 in the Las Vegas area. Comanche and the Stockton Kings played a game in nearby Henderson, Nev. on Dec. 5.
Rodgers was originally reported missing on Dec. 7, and her remains were ultimately located in a desert area in Henderson.
Comanche, 27, was arrested and booked on Friday on charges of first-degree kidnapping, along with Harnden. According to a criminal complaint, Harnden held or detained Rodgers against her will and without her consent for the purpose of killing her and/or inflicting bodily harm.
The Stockton Kings are the G League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings. They released Comanche following his arrest
Comanche played college basketball for the University of Arizona for two seasons. He went undrafted in 2017 and appeared in one NBA game as a member of the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2022-23 season.
In the lone game that he appeared in for the Trail Blazers, Comanche had seven points, three rebounds and a block in 21 minutes of action.
The situation is an extremely unfortunate one. It will now be up to the judicial system to determine what will happen to Comanche and Harnden. Meanwhile, the season will continue for the Kings.
Nearly two months into the current campaign, Sacramento sits fifth in the Western Conference standings with a record of 15-9. The Kings have won two straight games and seven of their last 10. They boast an impressive home record of 9-3, and they’ve gone 13-9 against other teams in the conference.
Moving forward, the Kings have four straight home games against the Washington Wizards, Boston Celtics, Phoenix Suns and Minnesota Timberwolves. It’s not an easy stretch of games by any means, but the fact that they all take place at Golden 1 Center should work in Sacramento’s favor.
