The Utah Jazz have come under fire recently regarding accusations of team officials and fans using racial slurs.
Former Houston Rockets player Vernon Maxwell said Jazz fans would use racial slurs.
Maxwell also said Jazz fans would spit on him and threaten his kids’ lives. He said Utah was the worst place to play in the NBA.
This isn’t the only attack on the Jazz, though. Former Jazz player Elijah Millsap recently came out and said the executive vice president of basketball operations Dennis Lindsey used racial slurs against him.
Millsap most recently played for the Jazz in the 2015-16 season. He hasn’t played in the NBA since the 2016-17 season.
These two instances with the Jazz aren’t the only two cases of racism in the NBA. In 2019, DeMarcus Cousins, Golden State Warriors center at the time, said he experienced racism from fans.
“Oh, I’ve been called n—–,” Cousins told Yahoo! Sports. “And it’s crazy because this has happened to me on a few occasions. I reported it to the league, and, you know, I may have said whatever I said back and I was still punished for it. But obviously it became a bigger issue when it was Russ [Westbrook], and he was still fined for it.”
