While the focus of the Rudy Gobert trade from the Utah Jazz to the Minnesota Timberwolves was Gobert himself, the Jazz did get some very impressive players in return.
Along with other players and a slew of draft picks, the Jazz received guard Malik Beasley. According to the young guard, he has what it takes to become an All-Star in the NBA.
At 25 years old, Beasley is arguably in the heart of his prime years. If he wants to make an All-Star Game, he’s going to have to do it sooner rather than later. Last season with the Wolves, Beasley did not put together what anyone would consider an All-Star campaign.
He averaged 12.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game on a paltry 39.1 percent shooting from the field and 37.7 percent shooting from deep. He would have to improve upon every single one of those numbers mightily if he wants to even contend for a spot in the All-Star Game this season.
With that in mind, he will likely have more of an opportunity to shine with the Jazz. The Jazz are in an odd spot at the moment, and they seem to be on the verge of starting a rebuild. That could give Beasley a chance to rise up and claim a really important role in the team’s lineup.
When he was on the Wolves, he seemed like an afterthought on offense behind players like Anthony Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell.
Still, it’s going to take more than a change of scenery for Beasley to become an All-Star.
