A lot of changes have taken place for the Utah Jazz already this offseason, as the team recently received a massive haul of players and picks in a trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves for Rudy Gobert.
While the Jazz are starting to look like a franchise on the cusp of a rebuild, it appears that trading away remaining star Donovan Mitchell may not be part of the equation.
Though Mitchell has been at the center of a number of trade rumors already this summer and could very well be moved in the end, the star guard reportedly won’t force a trade from the team.
Brian Windhorst recently appeared on an episode of ESPN’s “Get Up” to update the world on the situation in Salt Lake City.
“On Mitchell’s side, he’s going to stand pat,” Windhorst said. “He’s not going to force any action right now.”
It’s an interesting development, but it is not shocking. Mitchell has been a rather loyal star since entering the NBA, and requesting a trade just doesn’t really seem in his nature.
With that in mind, a trade could still certainly happen. The Jazz may decide that getting another massive haul and stockpiling picks and players for a rebuild could be the best route for the franchise to take.
If Mitchell were to be made available via trade, he would have a lot of suitors. Last season, the three-time All-Star averaged 25.9 points, 5.3 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game. He’s one of the better guards in the league.
Already, the 2022 offseason has seen a lot of player movement and excitement. Mitchell being moved would only add to what has already been an incredibly entertaining summer for NBA fans.
