Kyle Kuzma under fire for criticizing Democratic National Convention

Washington Wizards star Kyle Kuzma has drawn the ire of plenty of people on social media after he made a post on the platform X (formerly known as Twitter) that was seemingly critical of the Democratic National Convention.

The Democratic National Convention — held in the city of Chicago — is almost nearing its end. The convention is scheduled to span for four days, from Aug. 19 through Aug. 22, meaning the fourth and final day of the convention is on Thursday.

The convention has been dedicated to supporting Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz, who are the Democratic nominees for the president and vice president of the United States. It’s worth noting that Harris is the active vice president of the country, while Walz has governed the state of Minnesota since the year 2019.

Ironically, Kuzma plays for the NBA team located in the nation’s capital in the Wizards, and he was the straw that stirred Washington’s offense in the 2023-24 regular season thanks to his scoring and playmaking chops.

Kuzma led the way for the Wizards from a scoring standpoint last season. He averaged the most points per game of any player on the team by a wide margin at 22.2.

For comparison, Jordan Poole finished as the team’s second-leading scorer, as he averaged 17.4 points per contest, but had a hard time scoring the ball with efficiency. He shot 41.3 percent from the field and 32.6 percent from deep in his maiden season in Washington.

Coupled with the consistent scoring punch that he provided the Wizards with, he was also one of the top facilitators at the power forward position in the NBA last season. He dished out 4.2 assists per game across 70 regular-season games played, and he totaled a career-high 13 assists versus the Milwaukee Bucks in November of last year.

But Kuzma ultimately put up great numbers for a subpar team in his third season with the Wizards. Washington finished the season with just 15 wins and the second-worst record in the NBA.
