Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow indicated that his injured left knee is currently at 85 percent, offering hope that the second-year passer will be under center for the Bengals’ first regular season game this season.

Burrow was injured last season during his team’s Week 11 loss to the Washington Football Team, suffering a torn ACL and MCL in addition to other structural concerns.

At the time of his surgery on Dec. 2, Burrow’s recovery time was expected to be between eight to nine months. He’s confident that he’ll cleared at the nine-month mark by doctors, which will allow him to at least be a part of the Bengals training camp.

Burrow has already been on the field for organized practices for the Bengals and may try to even play during the preseason, if possible.

Given the investment the team has in Burrow as its quarterback of the future, the Bengals are likely to take the safest course possible.

That approach may mean that Burrow will be on the sidelines for their Sept. 12 opening game against the Minnesota Vikings. However, considering the level of production he delivered for the rebuilding Bengals at the time of his injury, the team will likely be taking no chances.
