Cincinnati Bengals superstar quarterback Joe Burrow revealed that he tweaked his right calf in the team’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
It’s the same calf that Burrow injured early on in training camp during the offseason.
Following the game, Burrow was visibly frustrated.
Burrow really struggled last week against the Cleveland Browns, leading the Bengals to just three points in a loss. Cincy is now 0-2 on the season with two losses to AFC North opponents.
The star quarterback was better in Week 2, but he still was unable to lead the Bengals to a win. A one-time Pro Bowler, Burrow finished with 222 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and one interception on Sunday. He completed 27 of his 41 pass attempts for the Bengals.
Week 2 was much better from a scoring perspective for the Bengals, as they put up 24 points. After failing to connect with wideout Tee Higgins in Week 1, Burrow found Higgins several times against the Ravens.
The former second-round pick finished with eight catches for 89 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Luckily for Burrow and the Bengals, they’ll have an extra day off this week before their Week 3 game against the Los Angeles Rams since it is on Monday Night Football.
If Burrow is unable to go because of his calf injury, Jake Browning is next up on the Bengals’ depth chart at quarterback.
Browning saw some action at the end of Week 1 against Cleveland when the game was already out of hand. He rushed once for negative yardage and failed to complete his lone pass attempt.
A four-year player at the University of Washington, Browning went undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft. During his collegiate career, Browning threw for 12,296 yards, 94 touchdowns and 34 interceptions in four seasons for the Huskies.
If Burrow misses any time, it could be a major blow to the Bengals’ playoff hopes. The team has made the AFC title game in back-to-back seasons, but an injury to Burrow and the team’s 0-2 start could be tough to overcome in the 2023 season.
For now, Bengals fans have to hope that Burrow didn’t suffer any serious damage to his calf on Sunday.
