Kareem Hunt is apparently ready to move on from the Cleveland Browns as he reportedly requested a trade from the organization. However, the team reportedly turned it down.
“Kareem Hunt has asked the Browns to trade him, and they’ve told him no, a league source tells cleveland.com,” wrote Mary Kay Cabot.
Hunt has been with the team since 2019, signing as a free agent. He was released by the Kansas City Chiefs a few months before signing with the Browns after a videotape of him physically assaulting a woman surfaced.
The running back was having a solid career before then. During his rookie season with the Chiefs, he earned several accolades, including being named a Pro Bowler. In addition, he led the league with 1,327 rushing yards.
Hunt continued his strong showing in his sophomore season before the videotape made the rounds and cut his 2018 season short.
The University of Toledo product was having a difficult time finding a new home. But his hometown team swooped in and offered him a contract. The Browns’ then-general manager was John Dorsey, who is not with the franchise anymore.
During his time with the Browns, Hunt has carried the ball 319 times for 1,406 yards and 13 touchdowns.
The Ohio native recently said that he wants to “get paid” and help Cleveland win a Super Bowl. The team has reached the playoffs just once since the 2003 season.
“Hunt told cleveland.com that he wanted to get paid and win a Super Bowl for his hometown team, but didn’t know what the Browns were thinking,” Cabot added.
It remains to be seen if Hunt remains in a Browns uniform or finds another team before the start of the regular season.
