Report: The ‘sense’ is that the Cleveland Browns want Cam Ward

The 2025 NFL Draft is next month, so it’s time for teams to get serious about who they’re going to target.

The Cleveland Browns have the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, meaning there will be lots of talent on the board when they’re on the clock. But one player who isn’t likely to be available is projected No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward.

With the Tennessee Titans holding the top overall selection, they are a potential landing spot for Ward as long as they don’t trade their pick away. That means the Browns — barring a trade — may be out of luck despite a “sense” that they “would like” Ward themselves.

Ward is an exciting prospect who increased his draft stock with a strong 2024 season at the University of Miami. He spent one season with the Hurricanes after beginning his collegiate career with stops at the University of the Incarnate Word and Washington State University.

With Miami, he appeared in 13 games and completed 67.2 percent of his passes for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns and seven interceptions. On the ground, he added 204 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. He also had a receiving score during the season.

Ward finished fourth in Heisman voting. He will soon get a chance to show that he’s NFL material.

If the Browns stay at No. 2 and don’t get a chance to draft Ward, they could still pick a quarterback if they so desire, like Shedeur Sanders out of the University of Colorado.

Sanders just wrapped up a season in which he completed 74.0 percent of his passes for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 13 games. It was his second season with Colorado after he began his collegiate career at Jackson State University.

The Browns have had a brutal quarterback situation in recent years and may get a chance to stabilize it in the draft. Still, there are no guarantees that they will draft a signal-caller, so their approach at No. 2 (or wherever they end up picking) is going to be something worth monitoring.

The draft will begin on April 24 and run through April 26. The Browns currently have a total of 10 picks across all rounds.
