Jerry Jones on Odell Beckham Jr.: ‘I know the Cowboys star on that helmet when he puts it on could look pretty good’

Though the trade deadline has already come and gone for the 2022 NFL season, there is one more major move that is expected to be made in the coming weeks. That is the signing of star receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

Beckham suffered a torn ACL in the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl victory earlier this year. He’s been rehabbing and considering his options as a free agent ever since.

Now, with his recovery reportedly going well, Beckham is expected to make a decision soon in terms of what team he wants to sign with. The Dallas Cowboys are believed to be among the most serious contenders.

Perhaps that’s why it’s not much of a shock that outspoken Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made a clear pitch to the three-time Pro Bowler.

“Odell is someone that we have all the appreciation in the world for what he is as a competitor,” Jones said Tuesday. “I know the Cowboys star on that helmet when he puts it on could look pretty good.”

Though the Cowboys are 6-2 on the season and very much in the playoff chase in the NFC, their offensive production has left a lot to be desired thus far in the season. In total, the team has passed for just 1,525 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions.

CeeDee Lamb, the team’s leading receiver, has 556 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions on the season. It’s solid production, but he could certainly use another premier talent on the other side of the field to relieve some of the pressure on him.

The next leading receiver on the team is Noah Brown, who has just 339 receiving yards and one touchdown reception on the season.

As for Beckham, it’s been years since he managed to put together a full season. Injuries have definitely taken their toll on his production, but his ability still seems to be there.

In the playoffs last season, Beckham recorded 21 receptions for 288 yards and two scores. It stands to reason that his numbers would have been even more impressive had he not left the Super Bowl early with the knee injury.

Though the Cowboys could be a great fit for Beckham, the team has some competition for his services. Some of the best teams in the league have also been mentioned as suitors, including the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings.

It will be fascinating to see where Beckham ends up signing. Whatever team lands the 30-year-old is sure to get a highly talented and motivated receiver.
