Brandin Cooks is on his way to the Dallas Cowboys, as they have agreed to terms on a trade with the Houston Texans for the 29-year-old wide receiver.
The two picks aren’t super valuable, so Dallas might end up getting a steal with this deal.
With the Texans not expected to be a contender in the near future, the veteran wide receiver recently reiterated his desire to be traded. The 2022 trade deadline saw Cooks get frustrated after his wish to suit up for another team wasn’t consummated.
“I’m not looking at it as far as being a part of a rebuild, however that looks,” Cooks said earlier this year. “That’s why I trust my camp and my representation to be able to get a map from here to there and to see what that looks like to be a part of something that has a trusted plan.”
Cooks started his professional football stint in 2014 after the New Orleans Saints drafted him with the 20th overall pick in that year’s draft. His rookie season saw him appear in 10 games, and he started seven of those contests.
The Oregon State University product started realizing his potential in his second year, recording 84 receptions for 1,138 yards and nine touchdowns in the 2015 campaign. He reached the 1,000-yard mark again in the following three seasons, playing for the Saints, New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams.
Prior to the start of the 2020 regular season, Cooks was traded to Houston, where he again topped 1,000 receiving yards in two consecutive seasons. However, in the 2022 campaign, he registered his worst season in a Texans uniform, finishing with 57 receptions for 699 yards and three touchdowns.
He is likely hoping to ramp up his production, and the Cowboys will present him with that opportunity because of quarterback Dak Prescott. Last season, the two-time Pro Bowler helped Dallas have one of the best offenses in the league. It scored 27.5 points per game, good for fourth among all squads.
In addition, the Cowboys feature another promising wide receiver in CeeDee Lamb. With a vertical threat like Cooks joining the ranks, the Cowboys could put up more points in the 2023 season.
