Report: Dallas Cowboys working out familiar faces amid depth concerns

The Dallas Cowboys are already headed to the playoffs, but they have some depth concerns at certain positions that they are seemingly looking to address before the postseason arrives.

According to a report, the team is working out a couple of familiar faces on Tuesday in offensive lineman La’el Collins and linebacker Damien Wilson.

“Concerned about their depth at offensive line and linebacker heading into the playoffs, the Dallas Cowboys are working out two familiar faces on Tuesday: tackle/guard La’el Collins and linebacker Damien Wilson, according to multiple sources,” wrote ESPN’s Todd Archer.

Collins spent six seasons with the Cowboys earlier in his career, appearing in 74 regular season games for them while making 71 starts.

He spent the 2022 campaign with the Cincinnati Bengals, who he played an important role with before he tore multiple ligaments in his knee. They released him earlier this season, and he hasn’t appeared in an NFL game in the 2023 campaign.

Meanwhile, Wilson spent four seasons with the Cowboys earlier in his career before moving on and bouncing around the league a bit. During his stint with Dallas, he totaled 121 combined tackles, 2.5 sacks, nine tackles for loss and eight quarterback hits in 64 regular season games (22 starts).

The former fourth-round pick won a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2019 season, and his last NFL action came in the 2022 season with the Carolina Panthers.

The Cowboys are 11-5 this season, and they’re battling with the Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC East crown with one week remaining in the regular season. Both teams have the same record. The Cowboys will face the Washington Commanders in Week 18, while the Eagles will face the New York Giants. Dallas holds the tiebreaker over Philadelphia.

The Cowboys won a playoff game last season before fizzling out in the second round. This season, they’re looking to put together a legitimate run and reach the Super Bowl for the first time since the 1995 campaign, when they won it.

It will be interesting to see what their roster looks like by the end of the regular season, as they’re clearly weighing all of their options.

For now, no matter who’s suiting up, Dallas will focus on its Week 18 matchup, as the team has plenty to play for.
