The home of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was allegedly broken into during his Monday Night Football game against the Dallas Cowboys, continuing a concerning trend of athletes’ homes being invaded during games.
A 911 caller reportedly said that her daughter was at the home during the invasion.
“Someone is trying to break into the house right now,” the caller said. “My daughter is there. This is Joe Burrow’s house. She is staying there. He’s at the football game. She’s wondering what she should do, if she should be hiding, or if she should go outside. She said someone was in the house.”
The daughter, 22, then reportedly also called 911.
“Someone broke into my house,” she said. “It’s like completely messed up.”
The 22-year-old woman was reportedly model and influencer Olivia Ponton. According to the sheriff’s report, Ponton is employed by Burrow.
Upon arriving at the house, Ponton reportedly observed a shattered window and a bedroom that was ransacked. She reportedly provided police with a rough description of what was possibly missing.
Aside from Ponton and her mother, a woman from New York reportedly also made a 911 call regarding the incident.
It’s believed that an officer was on detail at Burrow’s house that night.
In October, the homes of Kansas City Chiefs stars Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes were allegedly burglarized on consecutive days. NBA players Mike Conley and Bobby Portis were also allegedly victims of burglaries in recent months. Leagues have been issuing warnings to players regarding the trend.
The incident at Burrow’s home is under police investigation. It will certainly be worth monitoring to see if any new information leaks or if the invasion ends up being related to any of the aforementioned ones.
Burrow did lead his team to a win over the Cowboys on Monday, snapping a three-game losing streak for Cincinnati. The quarterback had a strong performance, throwing for 369 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
It’s been a disappointing season for the Bengals, but the team still has a chance to finish the regular season with a winning record. In order to do that, the Bengals would have to win each of their last four games, which would give them a final record of 9-8.
Unfortunately, football can’t be the only thing on Burrow’s mind now that he has to deal with the aftermath of the break-in.
