University of Colorado Boulder head coach Deion Sanders has been treated for a bladder tumor and is “cured” from cancer ahead of the 2025 season.
Sanders’ doctors announced that they removed a bladder tumor from the Pro Football Hall of Famer, and Sanders himself asked for everyone to make sure they get checked out.
It’s great news that Sanders has been cured from his cancer, and according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the head coach intends on coaching this season.
In two seasons at Colorado, Sanders has compiled a 13-12 record, but he led a massive turnaround in his second season.
After a 4-8 campaign in the 2023 season, Colorado won nine games last season and made the Alamo Bowl. While the Buffaloes came up short in that game, Sanders led a five-win turnaround in his second season with his son Shedeur leading the way at quarterback.
The younger Sanders was drafted in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and he currently is fighting for the starting quarterback job with the Cleveland Browns.
Travis Hunter, another star from the elder Sanders’ Colorado squad, was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and is playing with the Jacksonville Jaguars. A two-way star, Hunter won the Heisman Trophy in the 2024 season while at Colorado.
Prior to his coaching career, the elder Sanders starred in the NFL and in MLB. He was an eight-time Pro Bowler and six-time All-Pro in the NFL, leading to his induction into the Hall of Fame.
There’s no doubt that the elder Sanders is one of the biggest names in all of college football, so it’s great to hear that he’ll be able to roam the sidelines once again in the 2025 season. Colorado is looking to build on a strong 2024 campaign, even though it lost important players to the NFL.
The Buffaloes will open up their season on Aug. 29 against the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) Yellow Jackets. That game is the first of back-to-back home games for the elder Sanders’ squad, as they’ll face the University of Delaware on Sept. 6.
Hopefully, the elder Sanders will be able to lead Colorado back to a bowl game in the 2025 season and continue to establish it as a contender in the Big 12 Conference.
