Report: New York Jets have spoken to Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay Packers about trade

Green Bay Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers may finally be on the move this offseason, and the team that seems to be the most likely destination is the New York Jets.

The Jets and Rodgers have been linked for a while now, and the rumors connecting the two are starting to heat up. Based on a recent report, the Packers and Jets have already discussed a potential deal, and those talks are expected to continue this week.

“The New York Jets have had conversations with the Green Bay Packers and with quarterback Aaron Rodgers this week regarding a potential trade of the four-time MVP to the Jets, according to sources,” Dan Graziano of ESPN reported.

“The sources said some of those conversations were expected to take place Tuesday, but that it’s unclear as of Tuesday morning whether they will result in a trade.”

Surely, the Jets would rather not be in the position to need to make a trade for a 39-year-old quarterback. However, it has become increasingly clear that Zach Wilson — the quarterback they selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft — is not panning out in the way that the team had hoped.

Aside from quarterback, the Jets have some really solid pieces on both sides of the ball. If Rodgers can continue to perform at a high level with the Jets, they could quickly become a force in the highly competitive AFC East.

With that in mind, Rodgers showed definite hints that he may be on the decline last season. In the 2022 campaign, he threw for just 3,695 yards and 26 touchdowns while tossing away 12 interceptions. It was the first time that Rodgers had thrown double-digit picks since the 2010 season.

Those declining numbers could be a sign that age is starting to catch up to the four-time MVP, but it also could be a result of the Packers simply not surrounding Rodgers with the kinds of tools he needs to excel.

The Packers failed to retain Davante Adams following the 2021 season, and Rodgers’ receiving corps was incredibly inexperienced in 2022 as a result.

Only time will tell if Rodgers is wearing a new jersey in the 2023 campaign, but it certainly seems to be trending in that direction.
