NFL personnel man says Jacksonville Jaguars should be mentioned as Super Bowl contenders

The Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens stand out when deciphering which teams are Super Bowl contenders this season.

But one NFL personnel man said that the Jacksonville Jaguars should be mentioned as Super Bowl contenders too.

“Jacksonville should be in the conversation,” the personnel man told ESPN.

The Jaguars own an impressive 6-2 record this season, the best record in the AFC South by a wide margin. They own a two-game lead over the 4-4 Houston Texans.

Jacksonville got off to a slow start to the season. The Jaguars had a 1-2 record at one point after losing to the Chiefs and Texans in consecutive weeks. Their offense was particularly poor against the Chiefs, seeing as how they scored just nine points in the loss on Sept. 17.

But ever since losing to the Texans on Sept. 24, the Jaguars have played as well as any team in the NFL. The team is riding a five-game winning streak.

Jacksonville’s wins during the streak have come against the Atlanta Falcons, Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Arguably the Jaguars’ most impressive win of their winning streak came against the Falcons on Oct. 1. The Jaguars won the game by 16 points and held the Falcons to just seven points.

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence put together a solid performance in the team’s win. He threw for 207 yards and one touchdown while completing 23 of his 30 pass attempts.

Wide receiver Christian Kirk and running back Travis Etienne Jr. also contributed against Atlanta. The former racked up 84 receiving yards on eight receptions, while the latter finished with 55 rushing yards.

Atlanta quarterback Desmond Ridder threw more interceptions (two) than touchdowns for the Falcons in the loss.

The Jaguars will play the San Francisco 49ers at home on Nov. 12 with the aim of extending their winning streak to a whopping six games. The 49ers got off to an excellent 5-0 start to the season but are 0-3 since their hot start.

With how well the Jaguars have been playing as of late, the NFL personnel man seems to be right to believe that the team is a Super Bowl contender this season.
