Chris Jones Declares He Will ‘1000 Percent’ Win Defensive Player of the Year After Monster Extension

The Kansas City Chiefs locked up two franchise cornerstones this month.

First, it was quarterback Patrick Mahomes signing a record 10-year contract worth up to $503 million.

Then, defensive tackle Chris Jones agreed to a four-year, $85 million deal with $60 million guaranteed.

Jones, 26, made his first Pro Bowl in 2019. He didn’t play in the game, as the Chiefs were preparing to win Super Bowl LIV.

But now, the Mississippi State University product has his sights set on bigger goals than the Pro Bowl.

“They invested in a player that will win Defensive Player of the Year,” Jones told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Instagram.

When Schefter pushed him to double down on the take, Jones said he was “1,000 percent” sure he would achieve his goal.

Since entering the NFL in 2016, Jones has 33.0 sacks, 37 tackles for loss and 72 quarterback hits.

If he were to win Defensive Player of the Year, it would be an impressive feat for his position. Los Angeles Rams star Aaron Donald, who won the award in 2017 and 2018, is the only defensive tackle to win it since 1999.

Even after winning his first Super Bowl, making his first Pro Bowl and signing a monster contract, Jones is still motivated to accomplish more.
