Former NFL wide receiver Kadarius Toney was arrested last week over allegations that he strangled a woman, according to TMZ Sports.
Toney allegedly put his hands around a woman’s throat and squeezed, causing her to be unable to breathe in a January incident. The alleged victim is said to have been left with red marks on her neck and petechial hemorrhaging in her eyes.
Toney also allegedly took the woman’s phone to prevent her from calling 911.
“Two-time Super Bowl champion Kadarius Toney was arrested last week over allegations he strangled a woman, TMZ Sports has learned,” the outlet reported.
“According to police documents we obtained, the former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver was accused of putting his hand around a woman’s throat during a dispute at a Georgia residence on Jan. 14 … and squeezing ‘with enough force to cause her to be unable to breath.’
“The docs state the alleged attack left the woman with red marks on her neck … and petechial hemorrhaging in her eyes.
“Additionally, authorities wrote in the documents Toney took the woman’s phone from her during the altercation in order to prevent her from dialing 911.”
Jail records obtained by TMZ show that Toney was put behind bars on Feb. 6 on one charge of aggravated assault and one charge of obstructing/harassing 911 calls.
According to KGET.com, Toney was released the same day on $50,000 bail. TMZ reported that Toney’s bond was set at $25,000 for each of his two counts, which would add up to $50,000.
According to TMZ, warrants for Toney’s arrest were issued last month on Jan. 15.
The former NFL wide receiver spent time with the Cleveland Browns this past season but was eventually released. He was originally drafted by the New York Giants in the first round in 2021. He may be known best for his time with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Across parts of two seasons with the Chiefs, he earned two Super Bowl rings, even though he was sidelined for the playoffs during one of those Super Bowl runs.
The disturbing allegations brought against the 26-year-old could certainly prevent NFL teams from wanting to associate with him in the future. The legal matter will be worth monitoring to see where everything goes from here.
In his limited opportunities with the Browns in the 2024 season, Toney didn’t catch any passes. His most productive NFL season from an individual standpoint might have been his rookie campaign, when he had 420 receiving yards with the Giants.
The NFL offseason is getting going now that the Super Bowl is in the rearview. Teams will have lots of moves and decisions to make, but Toney, a free agent, might not land anywhere.
