A man was arrested after threatening via social media to shoot two members of the Kansas City Chiefs organization at a Morgan Wallen concert on Friday at Arrowhead Stadium.
While the two Chiefs in question weren’t identified by authorities, Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce were both at Friday’s concert and joined Wallen on stage. Mahomes’ wife was also present at the concert.
The suspect, Aaron Brown, made the threat via social media before the concert. Parts of it were redacted in charging documents.
“Mr. [redacted] at Arrowhead with the wife,” Brown posted. “If he brings out [redacted] or [redacted] I’ll take the f-in shot. F— em!”
Police tracked down Brown’s information through his account on X and were able to call him. He told police that he was at the stadium and located himself, which allowed officers to track him down. He was with his girlfriend.
Upon being confronted, Brown told police he made a “stupid mistake.”
“It was a stupid, stupid, stupid mistake,” he said.
The concert was delayed for 40 minutes while Brown was located. He faces a felony charge of making a terrorist threat.
One can only hope that nobody was ever truly in danger and that Brown simply made a bad choice by posting a reckless message on social media.
Mahomes and Kelce are two of the NFL’s biggest stars, and they’ve won two consecutive Super Bowls together, giving them each three in total. In the upcoming NFL season, they’ll look to make it three straight (and four overall), an exceptionally difficult feat to accomplish.
While the two players frequently make headlines for their careers on the field, they’re sometimes in the news for their personal lives as well, particularly in Kelce’s case. The tight end is in a high-profile relationship with pop singer Taylor Swift and has certainly seen his celebrity status grow as a result.
Unfortunately, this story from Wallen’s concert is certainly something the two Chiefs stars would have rather avoided. Hopefully, they were still able to enjoy themselves at the show despite the drama that went down.
The NFL season will begin next month, which should give Mahomes and Kelce plenty of chances to make the news for significantly more uplifting reasons. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see what comes of the charge against Brown.
