Here’s the latest update on Davante Adams’ ‘scary’ leg injury during Raiders practice with 49ers

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams suffered a leg injury during Friday’s practice with the San Francisco 49ers, but it is considered to be a minor issue, according to The Athletic’s Tashan Reed.

“It was a scary scene for Adams and the Raiders, but a league source told The Athletic that his injury is minor,” Reed wrote. “While that’s a favorable outcome, the timeline for his return to action is unclear.”

Adams is one of the best receivers in the NFL, so losing him for any amount of time would be a major blow to the Raiders’ playoff hopes in the 2023 season.

“I don’t think it was crazy serious,” Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels said after practice. “It was a bang-bang play.”

Since there is still about a month until the regular season starts, Adams should have a shot to return by then if the injury truly is just a minor issue.

This offseason, Adams has been looking to forge chemistry with his third starting quarterback in as many seasons.

After beginning his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers, Adams was dealt by the team last offseason to Las Vegas. In Green Bay, Adams had become a favorite target of Aaron Rodgers, a four-time league MVP.

Last season, Adams teamed up with his college quarterback, Derek Carr, who was still with the Raiders. However, that partnership didn’t even last the entire 2022 season, as Carr was benched down the stretch and eventually released this offseason.

To replace Carr – who signed with the New Orleans Saints – the Raiders signed veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

Garoppolo and Adams certainly need to get on the same page by the time the season starts, so any practice time they can have together is valuable.

Last season, Adams showed he can still dominate even without Rodgers. The former second-round pick made 100 receptions for the Raiders for 1,516 yards and 14 touchdowns.

A dominant threat on the outside, Adams has topped the 1,000-yard mark four times in his NFL career while amassing 87 career receiving touchdowns. He’s led the league in receiving touchdowns twice in his career.

The Raiders play in a tough division in the AFC West, which features the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. Las Vegas certainly hopes that Adams can get back on the field sooner rather than later so the team doesn’t have any issues competing for a playoff spot.
