NFL coach on Marvin Harrison Jr.: ‘He looks like Davante Adams did at Year 5 when he had figured the game out’

One NFC coach compared Ohio State University wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. to Las Vegas Raiders superstar Davante Adams.

According to ESPN NFL draft analyst Matt Miller, the coach believes Harrison’s current game is resemblant of Adams’ early time with the Green Bay Packers when he blossomed into one of the league’s top targets.

“He looks like Davante Adams did at Year 5 when he had figured the game out,” said an NFC receiver coach who watched film of the top college wideouts this summer. “He has elite route running ability, and he separates with speed at 6-4. Even if he only played inside, like JSN (Jaxon Smith-Njigba) did, he would still be a blue-chip prospect.”

That’s some major praise for Harrison, especially when one looks at Adams’ numbers since his fifth season in the NFL.

Adams’ fifth NFL season was the first where he went over 1,000 receiving yards – finishing the campaign with 111 catches for 1,386 yards and 13 touchdowns. It was his third straight season with at least 10 touchdown receptions, but Adams had never made more than 75 catches in a season until his fifth NFL campaign.

Since that season (the 2018 campaign), Adams has three more 1,000-yard receiving seasons, and he’s led the NFL in touchdown receptions twice. He finished with 18 scores in the 2020 season before tallying 14 touchdowns in the 2022 campaign, his first with the Raiders.

There’s no doubt that Adams is one of – if not the best – receiver in the NFL. To compare Harrison, who is still in college, to him is a massive compliment for the youngster.

The Ohio State star certainly deserves it, as he’s been one of the best weapons in college football since the start of the 2022 season.

In the 2022 campaign, Harrison appeared in 13 games for the Buckeyes, catching 77 passes for 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns. He averaged more than one score per game. He played with current Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud last season, but the production has still been there for Harrison early in the 2023 campaign.

The star wideout has 14 catches for 304 yards and three touchdowns in just three games for the Buckeyes this season. He’s on pace for another 1,000-yard season as long as he stays healthy.

Because of his play and talent, Harrison is likely to be a high draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. If he’s truly as good as Adams became in his fifth season, he should slot in as a No. 1 option on whichever team drafts him next offseason.
