Report: Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens among several teams interested in Cam Akers

There seems to be a market forming for Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers, as several teams, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders and Cleveland Browns, have reportedly inquired about the 24-year-old.

Rams head coach Sean McVay said recently that the organization is trending toward trading the running back.

Amid all of this, Akers was a healthy scratch in Week 2. It’s possible that he’s played his last snap for the Rams.

Across 15 games last season, Akers totaled 786 rushing yards and seven rushing yards while averaging 4.2 yards per carry. It was his best season at the NFL level so far, and if he lands somewhere else this season, he’ll look to pick up where he left off in the 2022 campaign.

In Week 1 this season, he was rather inefficient on the ground (totaling 29 rushing yards on 22 carries), but he did score a touchdown.

Akers will always be able to call himself a Super Bowl champion thanks to his time with the Rams. Prior to the 2021 campaign, he suffered an Achilles injury that was expected to sideline him all season, but he found a way to return ahead of L.A.’s final regular season game.

From there, he was able to contribute during his squad’s run to its Super Bowl title, as he rushed for 172 yards across four playoff games. The Rams won the Super Bowl over the Cincinnati Bengals by a final score of 23-20.

Akers, a former second-round pick, seemingly addressed his current situation on X over the weekend, expressing confusion.

However, McVay, upon being asked about Akers’ message on X, was surprised at the post and explained that the organization has given the running back a clear explanation of what’s unfolding.

Regardless, it seems like Akers may be starting a new chapter soon, especially since there’s clearly no shortage of interest in him. The running back position is one where a plug-and-play approach sometimes works, so Akers may be able to join a squad and immediately contribute.

The Rams are 1-1 on the season after beating the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1 on the road and losing to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2 at home.
