The New England Patriots are going through a rough season after two decades of dominance with Tom Brady under center, and things may be getting worse for the storied NFL franchise.
Head coach Bill Belichick made a surprising comment on Wednesday when addressing whether the Patriots considered trade offers for star cornerback Stephon Gilmore.
“Not that I’m aware of,” Belichick said.
The Patriots only have two wins on the season thus far and seem to be heading toward a disappointing end to the 2020 NFL season. The team’s struggles seemingly led to Gilmore becoming available ahead of the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday.
However, Belichick’s response was a bit strange, considering that he’s involved in all the team’s moves. This could mean there is a disconnect between Belichick and the organization as New England continues to struggle this season.
Although the Patriots had high hopes of competing despite Brady’s departure, the team has struggled with quarterback Cam Newton as its starter and injuries taking a major toll on the roster.
Ahead of its upcoming matchup with the New York Jets, New England is sporting a record of 2-5 while sitting behind the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins in the AFC East standings.
