Free agent offensive tackle Terron Armstead reportedly was hoping to team up with Deshaun Watson on the New Orleans Saints.

Armstead, who has spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Saints, reportedly thought playing with the talented quarterback was a “great” opportunity to win a Super Bowl.

“Armstead was hopeful to rejoin the Saints in the event that Watson picked New Orleans over Cleveland, Atlanta, and Carolina,” Pro Football Network’s Adam H. Beasley wrote. “He saw teaming up with Watson as a great opportunity to win a Super Bowl.”

Watson reportedly chose the Cleveland Browns instead on Friday, as he was able to choose his next destination due to his no-trade clause. The quarterback comes with some baggage, as he missed the entire 2021 season due to sexual assualt allegations against him.

While a grand jury did not indict Watson on criminal charges, he could still face discipline in civil cases.

With Watson choosing the Browns, Beasley outlined the remaining teams that could be in the market for Armstead’s services. The Browns are seemingly not expected to be in the mix.

“So Armstead will likely land elsewhere,” Beasley wrote. “Options include returning to New Orleans with a much-less promising quarterback situation or signing with a new team. The Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals, Seattle Seahawks, and Chicago Bears are among the clubs that need tackle help.”

When healthy, Armstead is one of the better tackles in the NFL, but he was limited to just eight games last season. The three-time Pro Bowler has never appeared in every game in an NFL season, and he has appeared in 10 or less games in four of the last six seasons.

It will be interesting to see what the veteran decides to do in free agency now that his goal of teaming up with Watson is off the table.
