Latest NFL buzz strongly links Jayden Daniels to New York Giants

The New York Giants have a huge decision to make with their No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 draft, with general manager Joe Schoen and coach Brian Daboll probably up to their necks, as there is only a little more than two weeks left before the draft.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels, who last played for Louisiana State University, has reportedly emerged as one of the Giants’ choices. According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, the 23-year-old is highly regarded within the franchise.

“When it comes to this year’s quarterbacks, Daniels is a name to keep an eye on, if he’s not among the top two picks with [Caleb] Williams,” Raanan wrote. “He is a player who is well-regarded within the organization and that multiple sources with connections to Schoen and Daboll believe would be an ideal fit in their offense. There is also interest in [J.J.] McCarthy, especially if he is available at No. 6.”

Daniels had a solid five-year stint in college, having played three years for Arizona State University before transferring to LSU in 2022. In the 2023 campaign, he ended up winning various awards, including the Heisman Trophy and Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.

Pundits have raved about the prospect’s potential to be a dual threat.

Daniels’ passing skills were on full display during his last two years in college, where he completed 502 passes for 57 touchdowns and 6,725 yards. He also showed the ability to make deep passes after completing the fifth-most deep throws in the 2023 season of the Football Bowl Subdivision.

Moreover, his elite athleticism has also received lofty praise. At 6-foot-4, Daniels has exhibited incredible speed, giving his offense an additional dimension that defenses must account for.

Only time will tell if the Giants pick him up.

Since franchise legend Eli Manning left, the team has yet to find his replacement at the quarterback position. Daniel Jones has done a somewhat admirable job, particularly when he helped lead the squad to the playoffs in the 2022 season.

Unfortunately, the Giants’ No. 6 pick in the 2019 draft has often been injured. His record was also spotty in the last campaign, finishing with a 1-5 record when healthy.

Perhaps Daniels could prove to be the missing piece for the franchise. On the other hand, Schoen and Daboll might opt to look instead for a wide receiver — another roster hole the organization has to address — in the first round of the coming draft.
