Packers legend on Jets pursuing Aaron Rodgers: ‘Y’all ain’t going to no Super Bowl’

The biggest news out of the NFL over the last few days is the confirmation that superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers wants to join the New York Jets for the 2023 NFL season.

At the end of the 2022 season, there was a lot of speculation that Rodgers, 39, was going to hang up his cleats for good. Now, it looks like he’ll likely become the big man in the Big Apple at some point this offseason.

A trade has not yet taken place, but when it does, Packers legend LeRoy Butler doesn’t think it’ll move the needle much for the Jets. In fact, he recently predicted that the Jets are going to win just seven or eight games with Rodgers at the helm this season.

“Y’all ain’t going to no Super Bowl,” Butler predicted. “… So, they’ll probably win seven, eight games.”

If the Jets win seven games next season, that would match the amount of wins they had in the 2022 season. Things started out really hot for the Jets last season, as they began the campaign with a surprising 7-4 record. Unfortunately for them, they went on to lose their final six games.

Though Butler may believe that Rodgers won’t bring any positive change to the Jets, it’s important to remember that the primary reason why the Jets fell off such a dramatic cliff last season was because of their quarterback play.

Zach Wilson failing to develop into a serviceable NFL quarterback after being selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft has, of course, set the team back. The hope is that Rodgers can make up for that monumental draft whiff, at least in the short term.

Aside from the question mark at the quarterback spot, the Jets roster is filled with talent and youth. Apart from Wilson, the Jets have drafted fairly well in recent years, and they have a lot to show for it. Their defense is stingy, and their offense is flanked with difference-makers.

If Rodgers can come in and play like he has for most of his career, the Jets will surely have a chance to win way more than just seven or eight games.
