Report: Michael Carter is receiving more trade interest than Dalvin Cook for New York Jets

With the trade deadline looming in the NFL, Dalvin Cook is a name that some fans have been monitoring. Frustrated with his reduced role with the New York Jets, he said recently that he would discuss the possibility of a trade with his agent and New York’s general manager.

Considering that he is a four-time Pro Bowler, Cook certainly has the resume of an attractive trade candidate. But it appears that the veteran may end up staying put, as Jay Glazer of FOX Sports said Sunday that there is more interest in Cook’s younger teammate, Michael Carter.

“A guy like Dalvin Cook, you’d think that everybody would be calling for him,” Glazer said. “They’re not. They’re more calling for Michael Carter than Dalvin Cook.”

It remains to be seen if Cook’s Jets stint will end as quickly as it started. He joined the organization this past offseason, signing a one-year contract with New York after spending the first six years of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings.

Through six appearances this season (excluding Sunday’s action), the running back has just 39 carries for 109 yards and no touchdowns. He is in danger of seeing his streak of four straight seasons with at least 1,100 rushing yards come to an end.

Unfortunately for Cook, he has seen limited touches in part because a different Jets running back, Breece Hall, has been having a terrific season, leading the league with 6.5 yards per carry heading into Sunday’s action.

Still, the report that there is more interest in Carter than Cook is a bit curious. While the University of North Carolina product is around four years younger, his body of work still pales in comparison to his 28-year-old teammate’s. Perhaps the supposed suitors are banking on Carter’s potential or are wary of the wear and tear on Cook’s body after over six seasons in the league.

It’s worth noting that this season, Carter has rushed for 6.0 yards per carry, while the veteran is averaging just 2.8 yards per attempt. The sample size for each player is small, however (and the numbers don’t include Sunday’s action).

Only time will tell if the Jets let go of either player. They may need to pick a direction at the trade deadline as they try to figure out where their season is headed.
