The New York Jets have been attempting to acquire a star wide receiver for some time, and it seems like they’re continuing to monitor receivers like Deebo Samuel and D.K. Metcalf.
“The Jets were unsuccessful in their attempt to trade for the actual Tyreek Hill, and they continue to monitor Samuel, Metcalf and other veteran receivers — perhaps a sign they’re not in love with the draft possibilities,” wrote Rich Cimini of ESPN.
New York has a promising quarterback in Zach Wilson. The team landed him with the second overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. The 22-year-old had a rocky 2021 season, completing 55.6 percent of his passes for 2,334 yards, nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
While Wilson did not have the greatest year, he is still very young and has potential that could help the Jets get over the hump and reach the postseason again after a lengthy absence. However, the Jets’ front office will have to provide him with some more help on offense.
The team holds the No. 4 and No. 10 overall picks in the 2022 NFL Draft. It also has two selections in the second round. However, the current draft class has a shortage of potentially elite receivers, which is why the Jets will likely need to look to the trade market to upgrade in that position.
Samuel has become one of the best receivers in the league in the past couple of years. Last season, he was named a first-team All-Pro and made the Pro Bowl as well. The 26-year-old caught 77 passes for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns while also rushing for eight scores.
Metcalf would also be a good addition for the Jets. The University of Mississippi product caught 75 passes for 967 yards and 12 touchdowns last season for the Seattle Seahawks.
