Report: Odell Beckham Jr. waiting for Aaron Rodgers trade before making decision

Free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and his camp reportedly “are trying to wait to see what happens here with this trade” regarding Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets, according to ESPN’s Dianna Russini.

Rodgers, who has made it clear that he’d like to be traded from the Green Bay Packers to the Jets, has not been moved yet this offseason.

“Obviously, the thought process in New York is Aaron Rodgers is going to be the quarterback, that is how they are operating, but Odell is weighing the options and of course, looking for the most money he can possibly get,” Russini said on ESPN’s “Get Up.”

Beckham missed the entire 2022 season as he was recovering from a torn ACL. The star receiver injured his knee in the Super Bowl while playing for the Los Angeles Rams in the 2021 season.

After being let go by the Cleveland Browns in the 2021 campaign, Beckham joined the Rams and caught 27 passes for 305 yards and five scores in eight games for Los Angeles. He thrived for the team and also caught the first touchdown in the Super Bowl win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

There seems to be multiple suitors for Beckham, though he also appears to be interested by the opportunity of playing with an MVP-caliber quarterback like Rodgers.

The Jets have a solid receiving core led by Garrett Wilson, one of their first-round picks last year. However, adding Beckham to the fold would make the team even more dynamic on the outside.

Rodgers has spent his entire career in Green Bay, but the team missed the postseason in the 2022 campaign and seems to be looking to change things up. The Packers drafted quarterback Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, but he has sat behind Rodgers the past few seasons.

The 10-time Pro Bowler has won the league’s MVP award twice since the team drafted Love, but it might be time for Love to take over.

The possible pairing of Beckham and Rodgers would make the Jets one of the better offenses in the NFL, but the team needs to hurry up to complete a deal with Green Bay so Beckham doesn’t feel the need to sign elsewhere.

It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out, especially with the 2023 NFL Draft rapidly approaching.
