Rumors linking Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets continue to heat up, and there’s reportedly optimism within the Jets that they’re on the brink of landing the veteran passer.
It makes sense that the Jets are pushing hard to acquire Rodgers, as youngster Zach Wilson, who the Jets selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has not been able to establish himself in the league.
New York has shuffled through plenty of starting quarterbacks over the last few seasons, and it is looking for some much-needed stability at the position.
Although Rodgers is 39 years old and showed some signs of decline last season, he would be a solid addition for a Jets team that seems ready to make a playoff run.
The 10-time Pro Bowler completed 64.6 percent of his passes during the 2022 campaign for 3,695 yards, 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Some of his struggles can be attributed to the fact that he had an inexperienced receiving group after the departure of superstar Davante Adams.
Only time will tell where Rodgers ends up for the 2023 campaign. It seems like things are trending toward him playing for the Jets, but there’s always the possibility of him staying with the Packers, the team that drafted him late in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft. Retirement also looms as a potential option.
If the California native were to retire, he would finish his career with a very impressive resume. He’s thrown for 59,055 yards and 475 touchdowns while winning one Super Bowl and four MVP awards.
He’s often been criticized for his lack of postseason success, and he may want to win one more Super Bowl before it’s all said and done.
The Jets went 7-10 last season with pretty mediocre quarterback play, so one can only imagine how much Rodgers would be able to lift the squad.
Wide receiver Garrett Wilson and tight end Tyler Conklin are the team’s two best pass-catchers, and New York could always add some dangerous threats in the offseason.
It will be interesting to keep an eye on this saga as the offseason rolls on.
