Dwayne Haskins tragically died on April 9 in an accident on a highway in Florida.

The passing of the young quarterback rocked those around the NFL. Haskins, a former first-round pick, was looking to revive his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was just 24 years old and set to turn 25 early in May.

According to USA TODAY’s Scooby Axson, Haskins’ parents will not be attending his funeral, as they have not met his wife in person or spoken to her.

“We have never met or spoken to the wife, and we didn’t want our son’s funeral service to be the place we met her for the first time,” said Dwayne Sr. and Tamara Haskins in a statement to USA TODAY Sports.

Dwayne Haskins’ family certainly could use all the support it can get during this time of mourning, and it is clearly up to his parents on how they wish to mourn the loss of their son.

Dwayne Haskins attended Ohio State University and was a star quarterback there, which led to him being drafted with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

During the 2018 season at Ohio State, Dwayne Haskins completed 70.0 percent of his passes for 4,831 yards, 50 touchdowns and only eight interceptions.

In his NFL career, Dwayne Haskins appeared in 16 games and made 13 starts. He completed 60.1 percent of his passes for 2,804 yards, 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

There are two memorials that will take place in his honor. The first is on Saturday in Rockaway Township, N.J.

The second is a vigil that is planned for Sunday at the quarterback’s high school, Bullis School in Potomac, Md.
