A recent report suggests that former star NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens was struck by a car after an argument during a basketball game.
“Terrell Owens was hit by a car on Monday night…and it’s all because he got into a tiff with someone during a pickup basketball game earlier in the evening…this according to cops,” TMZ reported.
“Law enforcement tells TMZ Sports…Owens had been hooping in the Calabasas area when he apparently got into an argument with someone else on the court.
“We’re told following the game, the man who had been beefing with the NFL legend got into a car…and drove the vehicle right into the former wide receiver’s knee.
“Thankfully, cops say Owens did not require medical attention.”
The San Francisco 49ers selected Owens with the No. 89 overall pick in the 1996 NFL Draft. During his 15 seasons in the NFL, he played for five teams — the 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals — but is best known for his time playing with San Francisco.
Owens spent eight of his 15 seasons in the NFL as a member of the 49ers franchise. During his time with the team, the 6-foot-3 wide receiver earned four Pro Bowl nods and led the league in receiving touchdowns twice and receiving yards per game once.
Arguably Owens’ best season with the 49ers came during the 2000 season. He accumulated 1,451 receiving yards, 13 receiving touchdowns, 65 first downs receiving and averaged 103.6 receiving yards per game during the regular season.
After spending his first eight NFL seasons with the 49ers, Owens bounced around from team to team during the final seven seasons of his career.
Notably, he spent each of his final two seasons with a different team. He played for the Bills during the 2009 season and Bengals during the 2010 season, his last in the NFL.
Despite being long in the tooth during his stint with the Bengals, Owens still enjoyed a very productive season with the team. He racked up 983 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns in 14 games played during the regular season (11 starts). Also, Owens averaged 5.1 receptions per game in his final NFL season.
While the fact that Owens was struck by a car is unfortunate news, at least he reportedly didn’t get seriously injured in the collision.
