Report: ‘All options’ still on table for Seahawks and D.K. Metcalf following trade request

Seattle Seahawks star wide receiver D.K. Metcalf is making headlines after it was reported on Wednesday that he has asked for a trade out of Seattle and would prefer to land with a contending team.

However, a report from Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times indicates that nothing is set in stone. Allegedly, “all options” remain on the table for Seattle and Metcalf.

“As of Wednesday morning nothing was imminent, a source said,” Condotta wrote. “And it’s possible the Seahawks and Metcalf could still work out an extension — or that the team keeps Metcalf and he plays out the final year of his contract. As of Wednesday, all options appeared to be on the table.”

At least in the early part of the 2024 season, the Seahawks looked like they were maybe on track for a special year. Seattle began the campaign by winning its first three contests but finished the season with a record of 10-7 and missed the playoffs.

Metcalf has spent the entirety of his NFL career to this point in Seattle. Unfortunately, he hasn’t gotten a taste of playoff football in a little while now. He last played in a playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers back in the 2022 season, and his Seahawks lost that game by a final score of 41-23.

In his first two NFL seasons (the 2019 and 2020 campaigns), he helped the Seahawks reach the playoffs, but the team never won more than one postseason game.

Metcalf seemingly has plenty to offer to a contending team and could be the missing piece to a squad’s Super Bowl puzzle. He was one of the premier talents at his position in the NFL this past season, as he totaled 992 receiving yards, five receiving touchdowns and 35 first downs receiving across 15 games played and 12 starts.

Like the Seahawks as a whole, Metcalf got off to a particularly hot start to the campaign, as he totaled 100-plus receiving yards in three of his first four games played. He ended up averaging 66.1 receiving yards per game on the season.

Metcalf’s ongoing situation with the Seahawks will be something to keep an eye out for in the coming days as the NFL’s offseason begins to heat up. At this point, the jury seems to be out on his future in Seattle despite the trade request that he made.
