Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Tennessee Titans are inking safety Jamal Adams to a one-year deal.
Adams has played for two NFL teams — the New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks — across seven seasons in the pros. He has three All-Pro nods and three Pro Bowl appearances to his name.
He spent the first three seasons of his pro career with the Jets — who selected him with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft — prior to his four-season stint as a member of the Seahawks organization.
The 28-year-old appeared in just nine of the Seahawks’ 17 contests during the 2023 regular season and finished with 48 combined tackles, 34 solo tackles, 14 assisted tackles, two quarterback hits and seven tackles for loss.
Adams will join a Titans squad that is fresh off a forgettable season. Tennessee finished the regular season with a record of 6-11, which was the worst in the AFC South by a wide margin, considering the Indianapolis Colts ended up with the second-worst record in the division at 9-8.
Tennessee had a very hard time winning games away from home. While the Titans won five of their nine games at home, the team team won just one of its eight road contests. The team’s lone road victory of the season came against the Miami Dolphins — who ended up with an impressive 11-6 regular-season record — back in December of last year.
Adams’ presence should bolster a Tennessee defense that ranked among the middle of the pack a season ago. The Titans allowed 369 points in total, which was the 16th-fewest out of 32 teams.
Hopefully, Adams’ impact on the defensive side of the ball will help the Titans get back to the playoffs next season. Tennessee hasn’t qualified for the playoffs since 2021, when the team finished the regular season with a record of 12-5.
However, the Titans lost their playoff game to the Cincinnati Bengals by a final score of 19-16 thanks in part to an impressive performance from Bengals signal-caller Joe Burrow.
