Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones donated to the inaugural committee for President Donald Trump, according to Front Office Sports.
“A spokesperson for Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed to Front Office Sports that he donated to the inaugural committee,” Front Office Sports’ Dennis Young wrote. “Most records of donors to the inauguration will be available later this spring.”
The committee reportedly raised $170 million to pay for the welcoming of Trump back to the White House.
After serving as the 45th President of the United States of America, Trump lost his bid for a second term in the 2020 election against Joe Biden.
However, Trump decided to run again in 2024 – originally against Biden and eventually against Kamala Harris (Biden’s vice president) – and ended up winning the election to return to the White House.
Even though the Cowboys’ 2024 season is wrapped up since they didn’t make the playoffs in the NFC, Jones still has a lot on his hands at the moment.
Dallas parted ways with head coach Mike McCarthy after the season, and it is currently in search of a new head coach. The Cowboys finished the 2024 regular season with a 7-10 record, good for just third in the NFC East.
One potential coaching candidate for the Cowboys – former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson – reportedly is off the board after he was hired by the Chicago Bears.
A season-ending injury to quarterback Dak Prescott limited Dallas’ ceiling this season, although backup quarterback Cooper Rush did lead the team to a 4-4 record across eight starts.
After winning 12 games in the 2023, 2022 and 2021 seasons, capturing a pair of division titles in the process, the Cowboys are in search of a new coaching regime that hopefully will bring the franchise some playoff success.
Dallas has not made the NFC Championship Game since it won the Super Bowl in the 1995 season. During McCarthy’s tenure as the Cowboys’ head coach, they went just 1-3 in the playoffs, with their lone win coming during the 2022 campaign.
It’ll be interesting to see how Jones goes about improving the Cowboys franchise this coming offseason, especially since the team has already handed out major contracts to Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.
