The 2020 NBA Playoffs are still in full swing, but it seems that the Brooklyn Nets are already preparing to bolster their roster for next season.
Brooklyn sent the NBA world into a frenzy when they hired Steve Nash as head coach early in September.
If rumors prove to be true, it seems that the front office is looking to provide Nash another All-Star to work with in Jrue Holiday.
If the reported package is indeed what the Nets intend to offer to the New Orleans Pelicans, it looks like they are willing to give up a lot to acquire the veteran.
Spencer Dinwiddie played 31.2 minutes per game in the 2019-20 regular season, contributing 20.6 points and 6.8 assists per match. Jarrett Allen started in 64 of 70 games, while averaging a near double-double.
Even so, Holiday could provide the Nets a complementary star to play alongside Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Throughout his career, Holiday has averaged 15.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game.
He could serve as the team’s third option on offense. However, his value might come on the other end of the floor.
The 6-foot-3 guard is a two-time NBA All-Defensive team member. Durant even acknowledged his defensive prowess recently.
“You put Jrue in any system, any coach is going to ask him to guard the best player,” Durant said on The Old Man & the Three podcast. “We played them in 2018, second round and he guarded me the whole series. He was picking me up full court, he was guarding me in the post. Actually, it was tough to dribble on Jrue Holiday. He slides his feet so well, he’s got good hands, he’s strong, he’s got good instincts. I gained a lot of respect for him in that series because he went from guarding me to Klay [Thompson] to Steph [Curry] to guarding Draymond [Green], neutralizing picks and rolls. He’s special. He’s special on that side of the ball.”
While the deal is still in the rumor mill, it would not be surprising if the Nets superstar endorsed the potential trade.
