Cam Thomas rips Zach Lowe’s report: ‘F*** you and the consensus’

According to longtime NBA analyst Zach Lowe, the consensus view on Brooklyn Nets restricted free agent Cam Thomas isn’t all that positive.

Lowe explained during a recent episode of his show that the league consensus on Thomas, if there is one, is “kind of like empty calories, ball hog.”

“The consensus on Cam Thomas — if there is one, and he’s got some fans, and he’s got some mega-detractors — but the consensus is kind of like empty calories, ball hog,” Lowe said.

Thomas did not appreciate Lowe’s comments, to put it mildly, even if Lowe wasn’t speaking about his personal opinion.

After Thomas spent his opening two seasons in the NBA in primarily a bench role, he came into his own and was a majorly effective scorer for the Nets over the last two campaigns.

He averaged 22.9 points per game across 91 combined games played in the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons. But at the same time, his stellar scoring resulted in little team success in that time, as Brooklyn missed the playoffs in both campaigns and won just 26 games a season ago.

Thomas can try to make those who agree with the alleged consensus view eat their words in the coming 2025-26 season, and one way he could impact winning for the Nets in the coming season (if he returns to Brooklyn) is by upping his effectiveness as a playmaker.

Thomas seems to have plenty of untapped potential in that area of his game, as he’s increased his assists per game with every passing season in the league and dished out a career-high 3.8 per contest last season.

But for as much as improved playmaking chops from Thomas would help Brooklyn’s offensive attack, basketball is ultimately a team game, and the Nets simply might not have the talent needed to compete at a high level night in and night out right now.

Hopefully, the Nets will soon make some moves to improve their roster ahead of the 2025-26 campaign. If they don’t, the team could be in store for another campaign full of losing.
