Report: Kyrie Irving could finally be open to taking vaccine under one condition

Brooklyn Nets superstar Kyrie Irving still hasn’t played in a game this season due to the fact that he is unvaccinated against COVID-19.

With a good chunk of the 2021-22 campaign already in the books, many fans are starting to think that Irving won’t play at all this season.

However, it sounds like there might be one vaccine the seven-time All-Star would consider getting at some point.

“Irving has adopted a 100-percent plant-based diet, so he could wait until a plant-based version of the vaccine has been completed and approved,” wrote Brandon Robinson of Bally Sports. “One such vaccine is undergoing clinical trials with more than 30,000 people taking part, according to a report in August.”

This is certainly an interesting development for Irving and the Nets. It remains to be seen if this will be what gets the 29-year-old back on the floor, but it definitely seems like it’s worth keeping an eye on.

At 16-7, the Nets boast the best record in the Eastern Conference at the moment, but they’re a far less intimidating team without Irving. If he were to return, Brooklyn’s title chances would get a huge boost.

Irving was named an All-Star in his most recent season. He had a fabulous 2020-21 campaign, averaging 26.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists per contest. He knocked down a whopping 50.6 percent of his shots from the field and 40.2 percent of his shots from beyond the arc.

Although the Nets have a good record, it’s very hard to replace a player who produces like that. They’re undoubtedly hoping to see Irving back on the floor this season.
