Josh Green revealed that he found out he was being traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Charlotte Hornets at 3 a.m.

The Hornets also acquired Reggie Jackson and a pair of second-round picks in a trade that involved six teams in total.
Green appeared in every one of the Mavericks’ 22 games during the team’s stint in the 2024 NBA Playoffs, which came to an end when Dallas lost to the Boston Celtics in five games in the NBA Finals. During the playoff run, he averaged 5.0 points per game — thanks largely to 39.0 percent shooting from deep — to go along with 2.5 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 0.8 steals per game.
He reached double digits in scoring in three of Dallas’ playoff games. First, he scored 11 points in Game 1 of the Mavericks’ second-round series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, then he followed up that performance by also dropping 11 in Game 2.
Green’s final showing of the 2024 NBA Playoffs where he scored in double figures came in Dallas’ Game 5 loss to the Celtics in the championship series. He finished with 14 points while shooting 5-of-8 from the floor and 4-of-6 from deep.
His scoring punch off the Dallas bench in Game 5 was a bright spot for the Mavericks, who ultimately saw their championship hopes die in that very same contest.
Green is going from a team that almost won a championship in the Mavericks to a Hornets squad that is seemingly far away from even contending for a playoff spot. Charlotte won just 21 of its 82 games during the 2023-24 regular season and ended up with the third-worst record in the Eastern Conference.
Plus, the Hornets haven’t qualified for the playoffs since the 2015-16 season, when the team was led by floor general Kemba Walker, who announced his decision to retire from the game of basketball earlier this month.
Here’s to hoping Green has found a new home in Charlotte and will help the organization get back on the right track. His playoff experience should help the Hornets if they reach that stage.
