It seems a matter of when rather than if the Miami Dolphins will trade star cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
General manager Chris Grier has openly said that it would be in the best interest of the Dolphins to move on from the 30-year-old, and a report from OutKick’s Armando Salguero indicated that Miami has reached out to most of the league about a Ramsey deal, including his former team in the Los Angeles Rams.
With a trade shipping Ramsey to another one of the NFL’s 32 teams perhaps forthcoming, a fixture of Miami’s defensive unit in recent years — defensive tackle Zach Sieler — gave his two cents on all the trade speculation surrounding the star in recent weeks.
“Jalen Ramsey is a great player,” Sieler said. “I mean, obviously everyone knows that. What he’s done on the field these last years has been nothing but amazing, but that’s not my decision, that’s not my realm. I don’t know what happened there.”
Sieler was one of the Dolphins’ better defensive players in the 2024 campaign along with Ramsey. He tied a career-high with 10 sacks across 15 games played (all starts), and that number also marked a team-high for Miami by a wide margin. Youngster Chop Robinson, whom Miami selected with a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, totaled the second-most sacks of any Dolphin with six.
The Rams were the last team that Ramsey played for before he joined the Dolphins organization. He was with Los Angeles for three-plus seasons and earned two All-Pro nods with the team and also won a Super Bowl.
Comparatively, he’s spent the last two seasons of his NFL career in Miami, and while he’s still one of the better cornerbacks in the league, he might no longer be the player he once was during parts of his Rams tenure. He’s earned one Pro Bowl selection and zero All-Pro nods as a Dolphin.
He also hasn’t experienced even a fraction of the playoff success he did in Los Angeles with Miami. After all, the Dolphins are still seeking their first playoff victory since the year 2000.
It would be hard for the Dolphins to replace a player of Ramsey’s caliber should they decide to trade him, but hopefully they can find someone to at least somewhat plug the hole left by his departure.
