Report: LaVar Ball in ‘great spirits and doing well’ after having right foot amputated

According to TMZ Sports, LaVar Ball recently underwent surgery to have his right foot amputated after he suffered a “serious medical issue.”

None of his sons have spoken publicly about his surgery as of this writing. TMZ Sports was told that Ball is in “great spirits and doing well.”

Ball has two sons in the NBA right now in LaMelo and Lonzo and another in LiAngelo who’s carved out a name for himself as a rapper.

It’s a sad situation for LaVar Ball, who made a name for himself while his kids rose to fame.

LaMelo Ball has had the most successful pro basketball career of anyone in his family, as he’s a one-time All-Star and in the middle of a career year so far in the 2024-25 season.

The Charlotte Hornets star is averaging a career-high 27.3 points to go along with 5.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.3 steals per contest. His availability has been one of his few struggles.

LaMelo Ball might have been named an All-Star this season if his Hornets were simply a better team. Charlotte has won just 13 of its 52 games to this point and sits as the No. 14 seed in the Eastern Conference. The Washington Wizards are the only team in the conference with a worse record, and their mark of 9-45 is the worst in the entire league.

Lonzo Ball, on the other hand, returned to action for the Chicago Bulls this campaign after he missed the entirety of the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons thanks to injury woes.

He’s not getting the run time he was getting earlier on in his career, but he’s still contributing in several facets of the game across 30 contests played so far. He recently earned a contract extension.

Meanwhile, LiAngelo Ball, a basketball player himself, has had a big 2025 so far thanks to his music.

NBA fans should be encouraged by the news that LaVar Ball is at the very least in good spirits, and hopefully, some updates will become available as he moves on from the difficult procedure.
