Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban took to Twitter on Tuesday and offered some very interesting insight into a trade that nearly went through several years ago.
It sounds like there was a three-team deal in place that would have sent Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce to the Mavericks.
The deal surely would have sent shock waves throughout the NBA. A Big 3 featuring Pierce, Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd would have been lethal. Unfortunately for Mavericks fans, the trade never materialized.
Pierce ended up playing with the Celtics until the 2012-13 season ended. He ultimately called it quits on his playing days after the 2016-17 NBA campaign.
He finished his career with averages of 19.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. He was named to 10 All-Star teams and won an NBA title with Boston in the 2007-08 season.
The former first-round pick is set to be enshrined into the Hall of Fame later this week.
The Mavericks ended up winning a title in the 2010-11 season, but it’s certainly interesting to consider how many more championships the team could have won if the trade for Pierce had gone through.
