The Denver Nuggets reportedly are offering guard Gary Harris in trade talks ahead of the NBA’s March 25 trade deadline.
“The Nuggets and [Dallas] Mavericks are looking for wing help,” The Athletic’s Joe Vardon wrote. “Both clubs are offering second-round picks. In the Mavericks’ case, James Johnson’s contract ($16 million, expires at season’s end) is being offered to make salaries work in a potential deal. The Nuggets are doing the same with Gary Harris. Harris, a former cornerstone for the Nuggets, has dealt with a bunch of injuries and has otherwise struggled over the past few seasons. His number for this season is $19.1 million, but he’s under contract for next season at nearly $20.5 million, too.”
Harris’ contract isn’t ideal for teams to take on, but a rebuilding team may be willing to take one year of extra salary in order to acquire an asset in a Harris deal.
The Nuggets are currently the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference, but they are looking to improve before the postseason.
With the Los Angeles Lakers losing both LeBron James and Anthony Davis to injury, the Nuggets could climb in the standings in the West.
This season, Harris is averaging 9.7 points per game while shooting 44.2 percent from the field and 32.0 percent from 3-point range.
He has appeared in just 19 games this season.
