Fresh off a season where he was named to the All-Star Game and won the first championship of his career, Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins could be on the move, according to one anonymous NBA executive.

The Warriors have a glut of talent up and down their roster, which means changes might eventually need to be made.

While speaking with Sean Deveney of Heavy.com, the executive brought up Wiggins’ future. The executive seemingly believes that the Warriors could ultimately look to sign Wiggins to an extension and then explore possible trades for the talented forward.

“It is likely that they will talk about an extension, maybe get him locked up, then look to trade him when his contract is secure,” the executive said.

Wiggins currently has one more season left on his contract before he becomes an unrestricted free agent. If the Warriors decide that it is in their best interest to let Wiggins join another team, there is no doubt that signing him and then trading him is a better outcome than letting him walk for nothing.

However, the Warriors could just as easily conclude that they want to keep Wiggins on the squad for the foreseeable future. He played well throughout the 2021-22 regular season and 2022 NBA Playoffs. He was a pivotal member of the rotation throughout the team’s run to the Finals.

Wiggins really showed the entire NBA what he is capable of last season. It will be interesting to see if he takes his game to another level in the 2022-23 campaign, given the fact that it is a contract year for the one-time All-Star.
