Veteran Jeremy Lin was reportedly heckled on the court by an opposing player who called him “coronavirus.”

Instead of shaming the player in question, Lin has revealed that he will instead spend his energy focusing on helping other Asian-Americans impacted by racism.

Lin is currently playing for the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League and had disclosed on social media that he was the victim of the slur.

The controversy stems from the fact that the highly contagious virus that’s killed more than 500,000 Americans originated in China.

Being of Chinese descent, Lin is keenly aware of the recent surge in attacks against Asian-Americans and is making an effort to greater understand the problems that exist.

Lin is attempting to make an NBA comeback with the Warriors, the team that signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2010.

After being waived by the Warriors in late 2011, Lin signed with the New York Knicks and briefly became an international sensation with a string of outstanding performances. Since that time, he’s seen action with six other NBA teams.

The NBA is investigating Lin’s accusation, though it’s unclear if the individual who allegedly made the comment will ever be identified.
