Report: Golden State Warriors ideally want ‘glue guy’ who won’t be locker-room distraction

A recent report indicates that the Golden State Warriors are ideally looking for a “glue guy” who won’t be a distraction in a locker room already filled with several strong personalities.

“Team sources told ESPN that the ideal fit is a ‘glue guy’ who will not be a distraction in a locker room already juggling multiple strong personalities,” Kendra Andrews wrote. “Following the splintered chemistry and the blockbuster addition of Paul, it’s clear Golden State wants to ensure stability behind the scenes this season.”

Perhaps Rudy Gay, who the team added on Wednesday, will be that “glue guy.”

After beating the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals to win the 2022 NBA title, the Warriors entered the 2022-23 season with the goal of repeating as NBA champions. But fast forward to present day, and it’s clear that the Warriors fell short of that goal.

Golden State finished the 2022-23 regular season with a mediocre 44-38 record and just escaped the play-in tournament as the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference.

On one hand, the Warriors were extremely hard to beat on their home floor, as they finished with a 33-8 home record. But they also struggled mightily to win games on the road, considering they owned an 11-30 road record during the regular season.

In the first round of the 2023 playoffs, the Warriors faced off against De’Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis and the Sacramento Kings. Despite losing Games 1 and 2 in Sacramento, the Warriors rallied back to win the series in seven games. Warriors superstar point guard Stephen Curry scored a whopping 50 points in the team’s Game 7 victory over the Kings.

After beating the Kings in the first round, the Warriors faced off against LeBron James, Anthony Davis and the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round. The Warriors’ season came to an end in this round, as the Lakers eliminated them from the postseason in six games.

Warriors star shooting guard Klay Thompson struggled to score the ball efficiently in the second-round series, as he converted just 34.3 percent of his field-goal attempts.

It makes sense that the Warriors want to add a glue guy to their roster who won’t be a distraction in the locker room, considering how their 2023 postseason stint came to an end. Here’s to hoping that Curry and the Warriors will be able to put the 2022-23 season behind them and win the 2024 NBA title.
