Falcons source shuts down Kyle Pitts trade talk in wake of Robert Griffin III suggesting Cowboys acquire him

Former Washington Commanders quarterback Robert Griffin III recently appeared on ESPN’s “Get Up” and suggested that the Dallas Cowboys should trade for Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts.

“They need that bodied presence to give them that mismatch, and the only guy out there right now that I feel like they could go get would be to go trade for Kyle Pitts in Atlanta,” Griffin said.

But a Falcons source recently shut down Griffin’s Pitts-to-Cowboys trade suggestion.

Pitts was selected with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft after a three-season stint playing college football at the University of Florida. His freshman season with the team, the 2018 season, was forgettable, though. Pitts finished with just 73 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown in three games played.

But during his final two seasons at Florida, he was one of the better tight ends in the nation. He totaled 640-plus receiving yards and five-plus receiving touchdowns in each of his last two seasons with the Gators.

Pitts’ contributions in his sophomore season translated into a lot of collective success for the 2019 iteration of the Gators. They finished the season with an excellent 11-2 record and defeated the University of Virginia in the Orange Bowl by a final score of 36-28. Pitts ended up with 39 receiving yards in the victory.

Pitts has played three seasons in the NFL, all as a member of the Falcons franchise. The 22-year-old tight end racked up 356 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns in 10 games played with the Falcons during the 2022 regular season (all starts).

Arguably his best season in the NFL came during his rookie season, the 2021 season. Pitts accumulated 1,026 receiving yards on 68 receptions, which equates to an impressive 15.1 yards per reception. Also, his longest reception that season was for a whopping 61 yards.

Those numbers were good enough for Pitts to earn a Pro Bowl nod.

In light of the words from the Falcons source, Dallas fans shouldn’t expect Pitts to be dealt to the Cowboys anytime soon.

Dak Prescott and the Cowboys will play the New England Patriots at home in Week 4 with the hope of improving their record to 3-1 on the season.
