With the 2021 Olympics set to begin in two months, the USA Basketball Men’s National Team has little time left to complete its 12-man roster.
After the Golden State Warriors failed to reach the postseason this year, there were hopes that two of their stars, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, would commit to Team USA. Unfortunately, it does not look like Green will be playing in the Olympics.
“Green, 31, a 2016 Gold medalist is still a first-team All-Defense player, though a source close to him raised doubts as to whether he’d play,” wrote Joe Vardon of The Athletic. “Kevin Love of the [Cleveland Cavaliers] is another Gold winner (2012 Olympics), but has suffered through the three worst seasons of his career. [Detroit] Pistons rising star Jerami Grant is a possibility.”
The three-time NBA champion would be a great addition to Team USA. His skills and experience in international play could definitely provide a boost to a roster that will likely be missing several high-profile players due to a number of circumstances.
However, the Warriors will be looking to make a return to playoff contention next year, which reduces the chances of Green playing in Tokyo in July.
